Anxiety, it’s something that surrounds the lives of many people and can definitely, in my opinion, limit their decisions on what they want to do or even what they want to accomplish. It can cause people to lose sleep, feel restless or constantly tired, feeling weak, overthinking, abnormal worry, and even have trouble concentrating. These symptoms alone can affect those who are in school along with those who have jobs as well.

Anxiety itself can be caused by various reasons some major and some minor. Some may be caused for no reason at all or with no explanation to come with the anxious feeling. 

Along the lines of anxiety, there are many different levels of anxiety like walking into class on the first day or presenting a presentation to the whole class that would be a normal amount of anxiety or also considered as “mild anxiety”. 

The next level of anxiety would be moderate anxiety. It can be somewhat similar to mild anxiety, but only on a day-to-day basis. There are cases of severe or extreme anxiety causing people to physically and mentally not be able to be around others because of how anxious they are around people, and can sometimes lead to ignoring everyone around them and focusing on a singular thing they are doing just to cope with the fact that there’s so much going on around them. This can also lead to many other mental health problems like depression and such. Yes, anxiety can be diagnosed in anyone, it can be shown in kids as well, ages 13-18 years-old. 

One way those who have anxiety can get through the day is getting help and support through their friends, family, parents, etc. to let them know they aren’t alone and can get through it and maybe even conquer anxiety. Another way to help those with anxiety is when someone has a severe case of anxiety they can sometimes or all the time has panic attacks, a lot of people think the best way to deal with it or help them is to hug them or touch them when in fact it does the opposite, unless of course they speak to you and tell you it’s okay, they begin to feel more anxious being touched when they really just want space but want someone to be there with them and help them through it.

Signs you can look for if you think someone is having an anxiety or panic attack are: sudden overwhelming fear, palpitations, sweating, trembling, shortness of breath, sense of choking, chest pain, nausea, dizziness, a feeling of being detached from the world, fear of dying, numbness/tingling sensation in limbs or whole body, or chills or hot flushes. Keep in mind that these are only common symptoms to look for, just because someone doesn’t have these symptoms doesn’t mean they’re not having a panic or anxiety attack. Remember— just because someone or yourself experience these symptoms doesn’t always mean you are having a panic or anxiety attack. Everyone is different and can go through many different things.

In the midst of it, in my opinion, it would be best to just be there for your child, sister/brother, mother/father, family member, friend, etc. and to let them know that they aren’t alone and have someone to lean on and talk to about these events because it really can be a very scary and frightening experience for anyone.
